What does work service look like?
We all do work to uphold the experience communally, so that we can all participate. For students, work service is held each morning from 9-11. This will rotate between kitchen, garden, and operations. Kitchen service may include assistance in preparing food for lunch and dinner, chopping vegetables, following recipes, or washing dishes. Garden service may include physical labor such as planting seeds, composting, and digging. Operations may include setting up classrooms, sweeping or vacuuming, cleaning the lodge, making signage for the day, setting the table for group dinners, putting together logistics for evening events, and general hosting and care.

For faculty, work service is held in pairs - either lunch cleanup, dinner prep, or dinner cleanup, lasting between 1.5-2 hours. We will make a schedule that does not conflict with your class time.

Can I just come for part of the session?
No. We cannot accommodate early arrivals, late arrivals, or late departures. We can only accommodate arrivals and departures on the assigned arrival/departure days. We are working to establish a community in just 9 short days, and it’s disruptive to have folks coming and going throughout the session. We also, as a tiny team, cannot accommodate getting folks to campus/orienting them outside of arrival day. Plus, we want to ensure that our limited 50 spots are given to folks who can be here fully for the entire session.

I live locally, can I stay off campus?
No - all participants during our session live on-site. We are not only are creating a pod of sorts for safety, but developing community within each year's cohort is a huge part of SotA. There are a few existing exceptions to this rule, but if you are applying for the first time, we are excited to welcome you on campus for the full-on experience, and we want to be sure that our limited spots are given to folks who are fully able to opt into the complete experience.

Are visitors allowed?
Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to accommodate visitors. We are not only are creating a pod of sorts for safety, but developing community within each year's cohort is a huge part of SotA. We've found that folks coming and going just doesn't work well with our model, and can even be disruptive to the community building we foster.

What is the physical accessibility of the campus like?
We work to make the experience as accessible as we can, but there are some major limitations of the campus we rent space from. The building where we live has an accessible bathroom on the main floor - but many buildings on the campus we rent from are not accessible, ie do not have elevators or accessible bathrooms. We take classes in a building that is a somewhat steep walk up a short hill, and we provide daily rides up to class.

Is there Wifi?
Yes! There is wifi on the entire campus.

Is there a grocery store nearby? What if I want SNACKS!?
Great news, there is a grocery store closeby, we will be doing less store runs this year, so consider bringing snacks along! If not, we’ll get you to a store early in the week. If you arrive to SotA with a vehicle, you are more than welcome to make grocery store runs on your own, we just ask that you continue to adhere to the COVID protocols that we set for our community.

Is there parking?
Yes!

Are there substance-free spaces?
Yes! We will have designated substance-free spaces in our lodge, and at all times all alcohol must only be consumed out of an unmarked container.

How many people will be there?
We aim to have 50 folks during our 9-day session.

What is the bathroom situation?
Each 2-person hotel-style room will have its own bathroom: a toilet in one small room, and a shower in a separate small room. In addition, in the hallway of the building where we live, there are multi-stall bathrooms. In the building where we take classes, there are two multi-stall bathrooms on the bottom level of the building.

Can I pay more for a solo room?
Yes, if you would like a single room without a roommate the price of a solo room is $264 in addition to your tuition costs.

Does tuition include my room and my meals?

Yes! Tuition includes all of your meals while here, + the cost of your lodging on campus.
